More Information on Eyelash Extensions

Posted by jachacosmetics

So people seem to still have lots of questions on eyelash extensions and so I thought I would do another blog to provide more information.

First of all, if someone is charging less than $100 for a full dramatic set of lashes, they are probably not using good lashes.  They also probably did not pay a lot for training.  You can take a 3 hour course, or a 3 day and the difference is that in 3 days you learn everything about the health and safety, proper disinfecting, where exactly to attach the lashes etc.  In 3 hours, you basically learn how to get by to call yourself a lash technician.  Yes, I am taking the three day course, and have had to watch videos daily to get prepared.  It is a lot of work!

Here is a breakdown of pricing by timing (and my prices are way lower then I should be as I am just starting out).

This is for Single lashes (explained in past blogs)

Natural Look:  From 60 to 140 Lashes and takes from 1hr 20-2hr 15, my prices are from $75-$120 for this.  They last from 2- 3 months with a refill needed after about 2 weeks.

Fuller Look: From 160-200 Lashes and takes from 2hr15 to 2h45 mins and my prices are from $140-$180

Extreme Movie Star look: From 220-260 lashes and takes up to four hours and prices are from $220-$250
SEMI LASHES ONLY $75.00!!!

MYTHS ABOUT EYELASH EXTENSIONS!
MYTH: Eyelash extensions make your natural lashes fall out

FACT: Your eyelashes are constantly growing and shedding, just like the hair on your head. An eyelash has a finite life of 60-90 days. They are supposed to fall out. Since they are at different stages of the growth cycle, most people lose 1-3 natural lashes per day on average and never notice it because lashes are so small. Properly applied eyelash extensions do not affect this natural growth cycle but you may notice the shedding more than before because your lashes are darker and thicker with the extensions attached.

MYTH: When my eyelash extensions came out, my natural lashes came with them.

FACT: In actuality, the reverse is happening: when your natural lashes grew out, they took the extensions with THEM! If good adhesive is used and proper technique is applied, eyelash extensions are designed to stay adhered to the natural lash until it grows out. If you are seeing eyelash extension shedding and your natural lash ISN’T still attached to the extension, you are losing your extensions prematurely and should consult with your stylist as to the cause.

MYTH: Eyelash extensions hurt.

FACT: If eyelash extensions are applied properly, you shouldn’t feel anything at all. If your eyelash extensions are hurting, something is wrong with your lash application. Read our post on eyelash extensions pain.

MYTH: I had eyelash extensions for a while and after I had them removed, my natural lashes were shorter.

FACT: Properly applied eyelash extensions do not affect the growth of natural lashes before, during or after application. Most people get used to how they look with their eyelash extensions on, though. When their extensions are gone, their natural lashes SEEM so much smaller and thinner because they aren’t used to seeing them bare. It’s a case of perception overriding reality. If you actually measure your lashes before and after, you would find no change.

Remember – the application of eyelash extensions is a highly skilled craft and should only be attempted by trained professionals. Always ask to see proof of training before you let anyone work on your eyes!
PROMOTIONS:  Book your eyelash extension appointment on Dec.31 and get a free makeup application.  Get three friends together and get 20% off your eyelash extensions!! Below is what a trained Extremelash technition should be charging, and what I will be charging! So book early :)

This blog has been months in the making and I am finally sitting down to write it! Hopefully now I will actually be able to keep up some monthly blogs for you all to follow.  I am going to show you different looks that are achieved using the fall pallate.  You can purchase the fall pallate right now for only $45.  You can also order all the shadow colours and lipsticks separately.

To achieve Cassidy's Makeup look, the following jacha minerals products were used:

Base: Mineral Sheer Veil in Porcelain Use: To add a subtle glow to the skin, avoid the forehead and chin as you do not want your skin to appear oily.
Foundation: Mineral Liquid Powder Foundation in Porcelain Use: Apply a light layer all over the skin, this product sets as a powder so there is no need to set it after.
Cheeks:  Mineral Blush in Cinnabar Use:  Smile at yourself in the mirror and apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks, then softly blend it across your cheek bone.
Eyes:   Highlight: Mineral Pressed Shadow in Sandstone Use: Apply the high light to your brow bone, and apply a small amount to the inner tearduck area of the eye.
Lid Colour: Mineral Pressed Shadow in Caramel  Use: Use all over the lid without going past the outer lash line.
Contour Colour:  Mineral Matte Shadow in Tourmaline Use: Apply in a C shape from the outer lash line and up into the crease of your eyelid.

Eyeliner:  Superwear Gel in Sienna

This makeup look goes from natural to more dramatic just by adding the Luxury Gloss in Firebrick, perfect for the holiday season.

To achieve Jess's Makeup look, the following jacha minerals products were used:

Bronzer: Minearal Zebra Print Bronzer is Santafe  Use:  Apply in a C shape from just under your check bone and around to your temple, then lift and brush down the centre of your face to give a beatiful glow where the sun would naturally hit to your face.
Blush: Mineral Blush in Coral Sun Use: On the apples of your cheeks and blend across the cheek bone for a beautiful natural coral glow.
Eyes: Highlight: Mineral Pressed Shadow in Sandstone Use: Apply just under the brow bone and in the inner tear duck area of your eye to add highlight.

Eyelash Extensions

Posted by jachacosmetics

Semi-Permanent eyelash extensions are becoming very popular these days and I am excited to be able to  add this to my list of services.  I thought I would write a blog to explain exactly what they are to clear up some of the myths associated with them.

jacha minerals pricing:

Semi Lashes= $75

Single Lashes:

Flirt Set= $80.00
Natural Set=$100
Full Set=$160
Super Glam= $215

Eyelash extensions require refills between 2 and 4 weeks. Clients who are new to wearing eyelash extensions usually need a refill at about 2 weeks. WHY? because they lack the experience of eyelash extensions care. More experienced clients get refills between 3 and 5 weeks. Caring for your new eyelash extensions is very simple. Treat them with gentle care no rubbing, pulling, curling, sauna or mascara. However you can go swimming and take your regular showers as water does not remove these lashes.
These eyelash extensions must also be removed by your technician. you must never try to remove them on your own as they are permanently attached to your own lashes. If you try to remove them without the proper adhesive remover you will pull out your own natural lashes. When removed by your certified technician using our adhesive remover none of your own natural lashes will be lost

SINGLE STRAND EYELASH EXTENSIONSXtreme Lashes Inc.: Single eyelashes These Synthetic lashes are applied one by one directly to your own  natural EYELASH.  We use a Medical grade  adhesive that has been approved by Health Canada. This Adhesive permanently attaches the extension to your own natural eyelash. Our adhesive contains the same main ingredient that is found in the medical adhesive used by Doctors to close wounds instead of doing stitches.
When treated with proper care these extensions will last for the full cycle of your eyelash growth. Eyelash extensions grows for 45 to 90 days and then become mature lashes and naturally fall out. Then they are replaced by new younger lashes which will also last 45 to 90 days and the cycle goes on.  The extension will also fall out with the old natural lash.
This lashes come in many different colours so you can be as creative as you would like.

SEMI (CLUSTER) EYELASH EXTENSIONS
Xtreme Lashes Inc.: Semi eyelashes
Semi eyelash extensions are very different from the single eyelash extensions. Semi does not have the same natural  look. They do look more real than the one piece false lashes, but just not as real as the single lashes.  We also DO NOT apply any of our lashes to the skin. All lashes are applied directly to your own natural lashes. Semi lashes stay on longer then single lashes. Semi lashes take about 45 up to 75 minutes to apply.

Carly's Romantic Proposal

Posted by jachacosmetics

Carly is a client that found me on the www.theweddingring.ca website.  I went to her house for her makeup trail and asked her how her fiance proposed. She told me the story and I thought it was super cute.  A few weeks later I went on the website and found that The Wedding Ring had wrote an article on the proposal and so I thought instead of just sharing the pictures of her wedding makeup, I would also let your read about how she got engaged. ENJOY :)

June 30, 2010 was the last day of school for Carly Genys, which meant it was the start of her summer vacation as well. "I taught math for a semester at a high school and it was not the best experience for me." Carly came home to find that her boyfriend (now fiancee) Tom Wade was already home from work.
proposalstory-carly-march2011"When I came in, he came down the stairs to greet me and hug me and congratulate me for being done for the school year. I walked up the stairs and he told me to drop my bags and books because he had a surprise for me. I told him that I just wanted to go upstairs to put my books with the rest of my stuff. He stopped me and told me to just put them where they were. I did but with some reluctance. Tom gave me a dozen roses and told me he baked me something. I was super excited because I have a huge sweet tooth. I went to the kitchen and noticed there was a cake with some foil wrapping covering it. I removed the foil and on the chocolate cake, written in M&Ms (my favourite) was 'Will you marry me?'. He got down on one knee, told me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes. It was such a sweet surprise!"(article courtesy of www.theweddingring.ca

Thanks for choosing jacha minerals for your big day! It was great meeting you Carly, you were a stunning bride!

Jessica's Wedding

Posted by jachacosmetics

On August 27th, puffy eyed and tired from my delayed flight the night before, I got to do the makeup for Jessica's wedding.  I am so thankful she was the bride I had to do that day, as her relaxed attitude and the fact she had allowed for extra time, let me work a little slower then I was used to on a regular wedding day.  Her and her wedding party actually sat on the couch and watched TLC as I did the makeup, which was not a sight I am used to on the day of the wedding.  Quite often brides are a little more stressed and running around finding last minute things to do .  But not Jessica, she was calm as can be and made for a very enjoyable morning of makeup.  Jessica wanted a soft smokey eye for her wedding day, but because she doesn't always wear a lot of makeup she didn't want anything over the top.   I decided to use a dark green colour instead of black( Mineral Matte Shadow in Olive Slate) to not only soften the smokey eye look but help make her eyes pop.  I then used a highlight that is a mixture of gold and silver(Mineral Pressed Shadow Sandstone) and followed with a soft silvery green colour( Mineral Pressed Shadow in Emerald Mist) all over her lid.  A lot of times brides will ask for the smokey eye look, but not really want a full on smokey eye, so its all about adding colours to soften the look while still giving you the drama you want on your wedding day.

Thank you Rebecca Zinger from Heritage Photography for providing me with these beautiful images.  Thanks again Jessica for choosing jacha minerals to be a part of your wedding day.

Tips on Makeup Brushes!

Posted by jachacosmetics

Women always ask me why are brushes better then using your fingers or a sponge for foundation?  Brushes are better because sponges will absorb way more product then a brush would, so instead of putting the foundation on your face, its really just getting soaked up into the sponge!  So although brushes are more expensive then a sponge initially, they will save you money on the amount of products being used.  Fingers are an ok option, but again they will absorb the product, and if they are not clean will obviously transfer bacteria to your face.

I also have women saying to me oh my brushes are getting quite brittle and dirty so I better buy new ones.  Well, as long as you have bought real hair brushes, why throw them away? You can wash them with your shampoo and conditioner you use on your own hair, and they will be good as new!!

Most women don't use brushes because they have no idea what they are used for! So here are some pictures of my favorite brushes and how to use them.

Here is your basic set of brushes:

Powder Brush:  A powder brush is used to add your finishing powder and your bronzer at the end of your makeup application.

Blush Brush: A little smaller then a powder brush and used to apply your blush preciously  on the apples of your cheeks.

Large Powder Brush: Used to apply your base eye shadow all over your lid.

Small Shadow Brush: Used to apply your contour eyeshadow colour and can be used to apply your highlight under your brow.

Liner Brush:  Used to apply your eye shadow as an eyeliner or to apply powder to your eyebrows.

Lip Liner Brush: Used to apply your favorite lipstick perfectly to your lips.

Foundation Brush: Used to apply foundation evenly on the skin.

So those are your basic brushes, they are available through jacha minerals for $55.00 for the set.  If you are really into makeup and are looking for more distinct looks however, here are a few more of my favorite cannot live without brushes.

Cutie Kabuki Brush:  I love this brush to apply foundation, I find that it apply liquid foundation faster and more evenly then a regular foundation brush and their is no streaking! The common use for this brush is apply a heavier application of powder foundatin.

Contour Brush:  Used just for that, Contouring! You can use it apply bronzer to the hollows of your cheeks to make them pop! You can also use it to define your jaw line.

Smokey Brush:  Ladies if your looking to perfect the smokey eye, this brush is your first step in conquering this look. It will add the dark colour right where you want to apply it on your lid.

Medium Creme Brush: Used to apply conceler to blemishes and redness in your skin.

Well ladies I hope this helps to answer some of your brush questions, I know its still confusing but buying the right brushes are definilty a first step in achieveing a beautiful professional looking makeup application.
