Carly is a client that found me on the www.theweddingring.ca website. I went to her house for her makeup trail and asked her how her fiance proposed. She told me the story and I thought it was super cute. A few weeks later I went on the website and found that The Wedding Ring had wrote an article on the proposal and so I thought instead of just sharing the pictures of her wedding makeup, I would also let your read about how she got engaged. ENJOY :)
June 30, 2010 was the last day of school for Carly Genys, which meant it was the start of her summer vacation as well. "I taught math for a semester at a high school and it was not the best experience for me." Carly came home to find that her boyfriend (now fiancee) Tom Wade was already home from work.
"When I came in, he came down the stairs to greet me and hug me and congratulate me for being done for the school year. I walked up the stairs and he told me to drop my bags and books because he had a surprise for me. I told him that I just wanted to go upstairs to put my books with the rest of my stuff. He stopped me and told me to just put them where they were. I did but with some reluctance. Tom gave me a dozen roses and told me he baked me something. I was super excited because I have a huge sweet tooth. I went to the kitchen and noticed there was a cake with some foil wrapping covering it. I removed the foil and on the chocolate cake, written in M&Ms (my favourite) was 'Will you marry me?'. He got down on one knee, told me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes. It was such a sweet surprise!"(article courtesy of www.theweddingring.ca
Thanks for choosing jacha minerals for your big day! It was great meeting you Carly, you were a stunning bride!
On August 27th, puffy eyed and tired from my delayed flight the night before, I got to do the makeup for Jessica's wedding. I am so thankful she was the bride I had to do that day, as her relaxed attitude and the fact she had allowed for extra time, let me work a little slower then I was used to on a regular wedding day. Her and her wedding party actually sat on the couch and watched TLC as I did the makeup, which was not a sight I am used to on the day of the wedding. Quite often brides are a little more stressed and running around finding last minute things to do . But not Jessica, she was calm as can be and made for a very enjoyable morning of makeup. Jessica wanted a soft smokey eye for her wedding day, but because she doesn't always wear a lot of makeup she didn't want anything over the top. I decided to use a dark green colour instead of black( Mineral Matte Shadow in Olive Slate) to not only soften the smokey eye look but help make her eyes pop. I then used a highlight that is a mixture of gold and silver(Mineral Pressed Shadow Sandstone) and followed with a soft silvery green colour( Mineral Pressed Shadow in Emerald Mist) all over her lid. A lot of times brides will ask for the smokey eye look, but not really want a full on smokey eye, so its all about adding colours to soften the look while still giving you the drama you want on your wedding day.
Thank you Rebecca Zinger from Heritage Photography for providing me with these beautiful images. Thanks again Jessica for choosing jacha minerals to be a part of your wedding day.

Women always ask me why are brushes better then using your fingers or a sponge for foundation? Brushes are better because sponges will absorb way more product then a brush would, so instead of putting the foundation on your face, its really just getting soaked up into the sponge! So although brushes are more expensive then a sponge initially, they will save you money on the amount of products being used. Fingers are an ok option, but again they will absorb the product, and if they are not clean will obviously transfer bacteria to your face.
I also have women saying to me oh my brushes are getting quite brittle and dirty so I better buy new ones. Well, as long as you have bought real hair brushes, why throw them away? You can wash them with your shampoo and conditioner you use on your own hair, and they will be good as new!!
Most women don't use brushes because they have no idea what they are used for! So here are some pictures of my favorite brushes and how to use them.
Here is your basic set of brushes:

Powder Brush: A powder brush is used to add your finishing powder and your bronzer at the end of your makeup application.

Blush Brush: A little smaller then a powder brush and used to apply your blush preciously on the apples of your cheeks.

Large Powder Brush: Used to apply your base eye shadow all over your lid.

Small Shadow Brush: Used to apply your contour eyeshadow colour and can be used to apply your highlight under your brow.

Liner Brush: Used to apply your eye shadow as an eyeliner or to apply powder to your eyebrows.
